‘Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackboard’: exploring risk in Magma 64

Magma 64 coverDelighted to have a poem published in issue 64 of Magma magazine, on the theme of risk.

‘Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackboard’ is a homage to/parody of Wallace Stevens’ famous poem ‘Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird’. Always risky to mess with a classic!

The poem also explores the risk inherent in both change and resistance to change. The blackboard is a metaphor for the gastropub, which in turn alludes to the gentrification of urban neighbourhoods and to the increasing pace of change in life as a whole.

Many thanks to editors Dom Bury and Jon Stone for including it. Available at magmapoetry.com
